A darkened room in a Hong Kong university building is an unlikely portal into an ancient world. But with the touch of an iPad Mini, the space is digitally transformed into a 1,500-year-old Buddhist grotto.  Harnessing advances in cinema, computer games and virtual reality, a team at Hong Kong’s City University have recreated the Chinese cave in 3-D.  They hope the techniques they have developed will help protect Asia’s heritage sites from the onslaught of mass tourism.
