China’s villages and hamlets are being swallowed up by expanding cities, and emptied by the lure of better paying factory jobs in coastal boom towns, threatening the country’s rural heritage.  I take a look at one project to save vernacular architecture and cultural traditions in two villages in the poorest province, Guizhou for the The Art Newspaper’s special report on China.  The report also contains my look at how China’s art funds are faring.
